Traditional agriculture exposes deficiencies such as over-reliance on logistics, consumption and waste of large amounts of natural resources, and "depending on the weather", each of which could be the "last straw" leading to mass starvation. Fortunately, with the rise of emerging technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, 5G and bio-based materials, traditional agriculture is being upgraded and transformed into smart agriculture.

In fact, the European and American agricultural industry chain has long been born the prototype of intelligent agriculture, which has been transformed from mechanization to informationization in recent ten years.

The "Soilless culture and Aquaculture Mix project" won the first prize in "2020 Global Farm Maker Competition" which organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. This is a aquaponics system that combines fish farming and soilless vegetable farming to create an efficient integrated ecosystem. Fish provide an organic food source for plants, which filter the water used to raise them. This has solved the shortage of meat and vegetables to some extent.
There are also other interesting projects, such as planting strawberries in containers through remote monitoring and remote control technology to reduce the loss in the logistics process and ensure freshness. David Beasley, executive director of the World Food Programme, recently declared that 2021 is likely to be "the worst year for humanitarian crises since the founding of the United Nations", as famine "is knocking at the door" for a dozen countries.

It can be predicted that in the future, people's demand for agricultural products will not change much, but on the other hand, logistics, transportation and sales channels will be severely damaged because of COVID-19. The shift is likely to lead to a food crisis in many countries and regions.

In the future, AI and other emerging technologies are expected to be further organically combined with agriculture to build a sustainable development ecosystem on the process of Smart agriculture and digital agriculture in China.
